ABOUT ABOUT

This class is meant to help the student become more comfortable and confident handling their firearm, as well as developing and improving the process of the draw from the holster and consistantly acquiring the target. Whether the student is someone just now considering concealed carry they're an experienced shooter who would like to build on their skill set and take their shooting abilities to the next level.

Range is open at 8:00. We will try to begin the class promptly at 8:30am. Please try to arrive a bit early to sign in at the range front desk and get situated to begin your training. We will be meeting and training at Styx River Shooting Center just off the I-10 Wilcox exit.

Get directions by clicking the "Get There" tab just to the left.

Now, for what we can look forward to in our Basic Defensive Pistol Class.
We will begin our 4-5 hrs of training with a short period of important  "classroom" training.
We will discuss the fundamentals of gun safety, function, and handling.
We will look at some different types and makes of pistols.
We will practice the fundamentals of shooting with our unloaded guns.
We will first get in some practice without using ammunition (dry fire). The most skilled shooters in the world invest a great deal of time into dry fire practice!
At this point, you will begin feeling more confident with the weapon, whether you began with plenty of confidence, or none at all.
We will then go hot (use live ammunition).
We will work multiple types of drills building your accuracy, overall gun handling, and confidence.

Cost for the class will be $80.00. (there is also a $5 fee that the website charges. FYI, I lowered my class price from $90 to $80 to absorb this for the students as well as $5 price increase from the range, so I'm actually the only one being affected by all these charges.
We prefer that you use a semi-auto pistol as we will be devoting a great deal of time discussing and practicing semi-auto pistol concepts.
As far as caliber and type of gun……..be aware that the smaller the caliber and the larger the dimensions of the gun, generally they are much easier (pleasant) to handle. The larger the caliber and the smaller the gun, the harder it is to handle the gun. And by handle we don’t mean shoot it………..we mean shoot it accurately and consistantly. In other words, unless you are a “well trained” shooter already, it's wise to not bring your spouse's or buddy's compact .45!  ;)
I recommend a mid to full sized .22, .380, or 9mm semi auto pistol.

You will need a semi automatic pistol with matching outside the waistband OWB holster. We recommend that you use a "mag pouch" attached to your belt, but if you can't get one for the class your pants pocket will work.                                            You will need a sturdy/rigid belt that was designed to support your holster.             You will need at least 2 magazines for the gun. More is better
You should also plan on bringing at least 150 rounds of ammunition.

We will each have to pay the range a $20 range fee as well.

You will need to bring wrap around safety glasses and if you have ear protection bring it as well. I will have foam ear plugs if you need them. I highly recommend acquiring some electronic ear muffs (Amazon). Also, have a rimmed hat such as a baseball cap and pants or shorts with pockets.

You will need to purchase your tickets to reserve your spot.  We will be limiting the class number to 8 people for safety.

Looking forward to some great training with you.
Stay Safe!
