ABOUT ABOUT

Here is a basic rundown of what we will be covering in this first in a progressive series of classes, which are as follows:
1 Intro To Pistol
2 Basic Pistol
3 Basic Self Defense Pistol

Level 1 is meant for everyone from the person who has been hesitant to ever even try shooting a gun, but wants to overcome that uncertainty and gain confidence in their safe handling of a firearm, to the seasoned shooter who would like to build on their skill set and take their shooting abilities to the next level.

Levels 2 and 3 will pick up where the preceding class left off and add additional skills and drills, ultimately getting us to where we can confidently, safely, and accurately engage a target or threat and assess the results.

Our classes are open to friends and family of you all as well..........as long as they are 18 years of age or older.
If you have a group of 4-6 people we can also schedule a private group class for you as well.

We will begin the classroom training at 8:00 am. The location for this classroom portion will be at the range. We will be meeting and training at Styx River Shooting Center just off the I-10 Wilcox exit.

Get directions by clicking the "Get There" tab just to the left.

Now, for what we can look forward to in our Level 1 Intro to Basic Pistol Class.
We will begin our 4-5 hrs of training with around an hour or so of classroom training.
We will discuss the fundamentals of gun safety, function, and handling.
We will look at some different types and makes of pistols.
We will practice the fundamentals of shooting with our rubber training guns.
We will then head to the range where we will begin applying these same fundamentals with the actual pistols.
We will first get in some practice without using ammunition (dry fire).
At this point, you will begin feeling more confident with the weapon, whether you began with no shortage of confidence, or none at all.
We will then go hot (use live ammunition).
We will work multiple types of drills building your accuracy, overall gun handling, and confidence.

I am offering the entire training session in 2 different ways:
If you have your own pistol and ammunition the cost will be $80.00.
We prefer that you use semi-auto pistol as we will be practicing reloads.
As far as caliber and type of gun……..be aware that the smaller the caliber and the larger the dimensions of the gun, generally they are much easier (pleasant) to handle. The larger the caliber and the smaller the gun, the harder it is to handle the gun. And by handle we don’t mean shoot it………..we mean shoot it accurately and consistantly. In other words, unless you are a “well trained” shooter already, don’t be bringing your spouse's or buddy's compact .45!  ;)
I recommend a mid to full sized .22, .380, or 9mm semi auto pistol.

You will need at least 2 magazines for the gun. 3 is better.
You should also plan on bringing at least 100 rounds of ammunition. Wal-mart is actually a good place to get ammo. I suggest the cheapest brass cased (not steel) full metal jacket (FMJ) rounds they have. Usually less than $15 for 50 rds of 9mm.

If you would like me to provide the gun and ammunition the cost will be $130.00 including the class.
I will need to know in advance if you need me to provide the gun and ammo.

There will also be a $15 dollar range fee that the shooting range will require.

You will need to bring wrap around safety glasses and if you have ear protection bring it as well. I will have foam ear plugs if you need them. I highly recommend acquiring some electronic ear muffs (Amazon). Also, have a rimmed hat such as a baseball cap.

You will need to purchase your tickets to reserve your spot. If for some reason you are unable to purchase your tickets right here, you may also purchase them at the front desk at our dojo. We will be limiting the class number to 6 people for safety.

Looking forward to some great training with you.
Stay Safe!
